Railroads of New York : A Study of Government Aid, 1826–1875
Harry H. Pierce
Public assistance for the construction of railroads was far greater in amount and continued for a longer period of time than is commonly recognized. This account throws much new light on such developments as the consolidation of the New York Central in 1853, and the widespread repudiation of municipal obligations that had been issued for the building of railroads. Maps and tables help the reader to determine the record of investment in any locality in New York.
